  2. Retention: After paying attention, we must be able to retain or remember what we observed. Our memory stores these observations for future use.
  3. Reproduction: To learn, we need to be able to reproduce the observed behavior. This means we should have the necessary skills and capabilities to mimic the actions we observed.
  4. Motivation: Finally, there must be a motivation or incentive to perform the observed behavior. If we see someone rewarding or praising someone for a certain behavior, individuals are more likely to imitate it.

For example, a character on a popular TV show who smokes might inadvertently encourage viewers to take up smoking. This is further enhanced, especially if filmmakers portray that character as attractive or successful.

In the context of Social Learning Theory:

  1. Attention: Viewers pay attention to characters and their actions.
  2. Retention: Viewers remember what they see, including the behaviors of characters.
